Strawberries + Swimsuits

Friday, May 15, 2015

I'd never been strawberry picking before, so when I woke up Saturday morning, I decided I'd head out to Green Door Gourmet Farm here in Nashville because their U-Pick strawberry fields were open (benefit of being married to a chef, he always knows what's in season, and what's going on where stuff like this is concerned).  I actually grew up on a farm (different kind of farm, but a farm nonetheless) so now that I'm older and can appreciate it more, I really enjoy going out and doing stuff like this.

The Grace Swing Dress is more aligned with the dresses I wear when I'm running to the farmer's market, etc. on the weekend and I always have a lot of fun accessorizing more casual/plain dresses.  It's only May and it was a pretty hot day (over 90 degrees) but it was REALLY windy so about 60% of my time was spent picking strawberries and the other 40% was spent chasing my hat around like an idiot until I gave up and shoved it into my bag.   Being able to go sans petticoat was a huge relief though, and having a few shorter dresses made of lighter fabrics are amazing for days like this!

I told Katie 454987604976 times that I would literally rather die than wear a swimsuit on the blog but here I am... coerced.  I still stare at these and want to delete them. haha.  I hung out at the lake for a day because we're a little landlocked here in Nashville and decided to re-read Bridget Jones's Diary ( I picked up a new copy with special art by one of my favorite artists, Tara McPherson).  I will say, that I really loved the Gingham Lana Swimsuit though I will admit, I had had to exchange it once because I felt like the breast cup area was very roomy (like I could fit a whole other boob in there), so I sent my Medium back for a Small and even still, I have a bit of extra space in there, if you decide to pick yourself up one of these, definitely size down.

  2. Holy shit i love that swimsuit! I have been looking for a nice one piece for a while, I've got one from Target that is about on it's last leg. The dress is very pretty as well, it has a nice silhouette. I've never picked any of those fruits, but I have picked blueberries and peaches. Our FL peaches aren't near as amazing as Georgia peaches (har har har) but they're alright. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. You look sensational!!! I've never sported a swimsuit (I actually don't even own one at present, as swimming, which I love to bits, is well beyond the scope of my health) on camera and feel a wave of unbridled panic serge through me just thinking about it. You need not fear, as you look absolutely gorgeous and like cute as a summertime picture!

*PS* Your watermelon bag is slaying me with its awesomeness!

What kind of farm did you grow up on? I used to go apple picking every fall in Massachusetts when I was little and live there. Now I have so many apple trees in my yard I just go at home. There don't seem to be as many you-pick apple farms here in WA, even though we grow a lot of apples.
The swim suit looks great! I need a new one for my aqua zumba and water walking classes.

  11. I took my five year old daughter blueberry picking yesterday! It was super hot but I love being able to pick this early in the year. My mom took us every September back home in Massachusetts. I also loved not having to wear a cowbell to warn bears of our presence - it was a very Blueberries for Sal situation as kids!

I wore a vintage sundress with a very full skirt, and while it was nice and light in the heat (I know this is Georgia, but how can it be this hot when it's only May?!) it was a bit too windy for that particular dress and...let's just say if we hadn't been the only ones picking, a lot of people would have gotten a free show!

  12. RIGHT?! It's such a good suit! And HAHAHA oh my god, I think I have that SAME suit from Target?! Is it sort of this style? Mine is black and it was in dire need of retirement!

I've picked blackberries but I've never picked blueberries! I bet that's so much fun! <3

  15. Thank you! I actually usually avoid wearing one at all costs so this is my first one in a long time. Trust me, there was a lot A LOT of panic. Katie totally talked me into this post and I wouldn't have done it without her coaxing me.

Also, it was a $8 flea market find! Watermelon baskets for all! haha

  16. Thank you! I'm over my hair this summer, so, I've decided to order one billion hats and where them until I can't anymore. haha

  17. Well thank you! I had a hard time deciding what belt to wear with it, but I knew I wanted a pattern and gingham is my spirit animal haha. Also, hats are going to be my thing this summer, I feel it coming, I'm already over the humidity and my hair! lol

  19. I grew up on a beef cattle farm. haha. SO southern. We always had a HUGE garden though, my grandmother still has one every year and I like to go out there and hang out with her and snap green beans and watch her can things. <3

I've never been apple picking, I want to so badly now!

Also, thank you so much! Aqua zumba and water walking?! That sounds amazing! What fun classes!

  20. Aww, I bet that was so much fun! It was nice when I FIRST started picking strawberries but by the end of it my hair was on top of my head and my hat was in my bag.. And oh my god, yeah, I would also like not having to wear a "bear bell" haha.

And OH NO! I felt like that this weekend while we were at the peach stand! haha. Luckily, I was wearing an underskirt! I agree though, it seems oddly hot for May this year.... that makes me afraid of July!

  22. OH MY GOODNESS YOU FRIGGIN BABE! I wish I could use emoji on my computer because I would flood this comment box with the cat with love heart eyes.
I hope you realise that you are some sort of role model and that it's super positive to see all walks of life in all manner of outfits, and stepping outside your comfort is a massive thing to be commended on. And wow-wee, you look fantastic.
Also, cat heart eyes emojis for the watermelon picnic basket!

I went strawberry picking in the hills with my boyfriend once and it was great, I ate so many strawberries while picking I didn't even want to eat the ones I had picked, haha xx
