Pennant Banners + Yellow Checks

Saturday, January 31, 2015

It's weird to think that this time last year it was snowing in Georgia since it's been in the low 60s lately.  It's definitely my preferred temperature, but I'll take it!  The warmer weather inspired me to bare my shoulders, and break away from my cardigans, boleros and peacoats that I have been wearing as of late.  Hello sunshine, this little Georgia peach has missed you.  I'm sure I've jinxed myself, and Jack Frost will blow some cold air my way now.

I am a sucker for cute prints, and this top (which is really a dress) is one of my all-time favorites.  I bought this dress from Modcloth maybe two years ago, and I instantly knew it was going to be too short for my comfort.  However, the pennant banner print and lovely blue color are too perfect to just sit in my wardrobe so I wear it as a top pretty frequently.  It also has the versatility of being a halter-top or a strapless top.  Wearing dresses as tops is one of my favorite ways to switch up my wardrobe, and it really 'stretches' your pieces.  When people ask one way to make a few pieces of clothing go a long way I always suggest trying to wear a dress as a top.  You never know what the outcome may be!

So, I've had this dress in my closet for quite a while and every now and again, I like to pull it out.  I actually snagged it off eBay a couple of years ago and the seller had written that she'd picked it up at a  Stop Staring! sample sale.  It has the Stop Staring! label inside but I've actually never seen another so maybe it was the only sample of its kind -- who knows, but I love it, yellow always makes me feel happy because it's such a cheery color!

Also, I've been trying to make it a point to switch out my glasses more often.  I have my prescription filled in about 4 pairs now and I try to remember to change it up every now and again.  I've been wearing glasses since elementary school and they're a daily accessory for me, so I might as well make them fun!  My vintage frames that I've had retrofit are my favorites (this pair included) and I'm thinking about taking a few more pairs up to Walmart to have lenses put in.  For ladies that have asked, it's about $30 and all you have to do is sign a waiver and leave your glasses with them for a few days.  I've never had a bad experience, the waiver is really just a precaution, and I LOVE being able to get lenses put in vintage frames that I hunt down for so cheap.

Friday Favorites #42

Thursday, January 29, 2015

I'm back from my honeymoon + Amelia is back from her business trip to LA so Friday Favorites is back!  We're in sort of a post-vacation malaise right now, so we're gravitating towards quirk + kitsch this week!

It's sort of a happy accident that I just left Florida where it's still warm and sunny and this little collage turned out to be slightly nautical.  I've been working on building my separates collection lately to expand my wardrobe around more mix 'n' matching and I'm lusting after all sort of striped things.  I also threw in the Martini, Extra Flirty! Top + the White Pearl Poodle Pin because well... they're awesome.

Kate Spade Lyssa Glasses (51 mm) in Gold Glitter

While Collin + I stopped through Georgia on the way to our honeymoon, we did Christmas with my in-laws and one of my gifts was an Amazon gift card.  I was incredibly excited because I've had my eye on these Kate Spade Lyssa Glasses (51 mm) in Gold Glitter for a while now.  I grabbed myself a pair, but now I can't decide whether to fill my prescription normally or as sunglasses because they look so cute both ways! What do y'all think?

I was recently surprised with a care package from Doll Me Up Darling.  I'd initially packed the adorable Teapot Cardigan to wear while I was in Disney World on Mad Tea Party but we ended up doing the parks in a different order than we'd initially planned so I can't wait to style it soon!  The package also included this Vixen Vendetta Top and some nylon hair scarves.  She's also doing 10% off storewide with promo code "lovestruck" right now.

Usually novelty purses aren't really my thing, but I've seen some really cute ones around lately and thought I'd share a few of my favorites.  I love the Kate Spade Over the Moon Rocket Clutch the most but I think I would have to my soul to afford it.  I also really love the Edith + Ella White Signature Purse.  Edith + Ella actually release their signature purse in varying colors depending on the season and I'm hoping to snag a baby pink one I saw a while back.  The best part is, that all their bags come with those little cherry adornments.

Pinup Girl Clothing Maria Dress in Purple and Blue

A LONG time ago when Pinup Girl Clothing let us peak into the new harlequin prints (which are now the new-er harlequin prints but aren't so new anymore) they also let us peep these beautiful floral dresses.  Quite a while passed and they weren't released, so I assumed maybe something had happened and they were pulled and they'd decided not to release them.  BUT LO AND BEHOLD, last week, there they were!  I absolutely love them andddd I'm PRETTY sure I need both.

To end, this amazing GIF of Dita Von Teese being stunning + my ultimate hair goals....

Guest Junebug Ashley: Pink Elephants

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Hello there, peaches!  My name is Ashley and I blog over at Southern (California) Belle.  As always, I'm honored to be guest blogging for Amelia and June while they're away.  Today I wanted to post one of my favorite dresses, the Bernie Dexter Sugardoll in pink elephant print.  I know it's a favorite of June's so I wanted to represent her while she's away on her Disney themed honeymoon.  How fun does that sound?!

Shoes- BAIT Footwear
Petticoat- Unique Vintage
Cardigan- Sidecca (similar)
Bracelet- Swarovski

This dress is a staple for many reasons, but I think the print is my favorite part.  Pink elephants drunk on champagne, it's so kitschy and cute!  Every time I wear it I have strangers approach me with compliments. All her Sugardoll dresses have pockets which is a huge sell for me.  The full skirt also accommodates a petticoat perfectly.  Like most Bernie dresses, they look a million times better with one.  If you've never worn a petticoat and you'd like more information, Amelia and June wrote a fabulous post about them HERE.

I hope you're having a fabulous Wednesday and make sure to come say hello on my blog or Instagram :)

Eva Babydoll in Navy Floral  |  Dottie Babydoll in Pink Floral
Well y'all, Valentine's Day is right around the corner and yeah, we're both married, but lets not forget that the ultimate Valentines are yourself and your best friend, or as Leslie Knope would say, "Galentine". ; )  And we decided to have a sleepover in some cute, floral loungewear to celebrate that!

Also, we'll provide the details at the end of the post, but one lucky lady will win an item of her choice from The Domestic Dame!  We both picked loungewear but the shop also offers some adorable aprons you can can wear while you bake your sweetie, your best friend or hell, yourself, some Valentine's Day goodies.  We actually blogged about one before and you can find that here.

We realized this was the perfect opportunity to channel our inner Pink Lady and pretend we were in Frenchy's bedroom.  We slipped on our cute f*cking loungewear from The Domestic Dame, broke out the cheap wine (I don't drink but it was a nod to both Grease AND one of our favorite fictional heroines, Alaska Young) and let Michael, Amelia's husband, eat all the Cloud Cakes.  We DIY'd a Rydell banner to get in the spirit of things and then we curled up with my wedding photos and turned on New Girl so we could count how many times Schmidt had to put money in the douchebag jar.

The last time that we worked with The Domestic Dame I received the perfect pink gingam apron, but was totally envious of the babydoll June rocked.  I was more than excited to get this adorable Dottie Babydoll.  I'm notoriously a fan of lazy days, and a cute nightie is the perfect 'outfit' for my lazy days.    This babydoll is gorgeous in this pink/coral floral print, but is also available in Navy polka dot and floral (the same fabric as June's below).  I'm also dying to see what the ladies of The Domestic Dame have up their sleeves as they have a 'shop dresses' section that is coming soon!

For me, slumber parties are all about good snacks, great music and best friends.  June and I are always so busy when we are together that it was amazing to get to lounge on the couch with her and not worry about going out.  Plus, it meant that I didn't have to take my rollers out of my hair, which in my book is a total win.  Nothing like a night in listening to Bob Dylan and drinking a glass of wine (or lemonade since June doesn't drink) with your best friend!

Like we said earlier, we blogged about these pieces here, so I already own one babydoll from The Domestic Dame that I wear all the time and absolutely love.  This time 'round, I chose the Eva Babydoll in Navy Floral because I loved the square neckline, eyelet details + the little bow and the vibrant fabric.

Hmm, since this is a slumber party themed post I'm going to share this girly tip: I've found the key to lazy day curls and I am REALLY stoked about it.  Step one is washing your hair, getting out of the shower and applying some setting lotion (like this curl amplifier).  Wait until it's mostly dry and put your hair in a sock bun like I did in this post then sleep with it like that. It will annoy the shit out of you, but sleep with it like that anyways.  Then wake up, take it out, brush your hair with a Denman brush and... voila! Seriously y'all... that's it. No pins, no curlers, no curling iron.

And because sometimes, at a sleepover, not everything turn out as it should...

So, like I mentioned earlier, we're hosting a giveaway!  We thought with Valentine's Day approaching, it would be the perfect time to give away a cute little apron or some loungewear.  To enter the giveaway for a chance to win an item of your choice from The Domestic Dame, see the widget below!

Guest Junebug Sammi: Disney Stowaway

Saturday, January 24, 2015

Happy Saturday, peaches!  For those who don't know me, I'm Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette, and I'm pleased as punch to be guest posting here on Junebugs and Georgia Peaches today.  While June + Amelia are off gallivanting (or working, in Amelia's case) amongst the palm trees, I'm stuck in snowy upstate New York, dreaming of Disney World.

If there is anywhere in the world that my wardrobe truly belongs, it's Walt Disney World.  I love whimsy, kitsch and costume, and there is no better place to showcase my quirky dress collection than in the land of the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot.  I went to Disney World last January for the first time in several years, and I'm dying to go back... but for now, I'll just have to live vicariously though June, who is currently enjoying her honeymoon in the wonderful world of Disney.

Firstly, I think it's imperative to have at least one Minnie-Mouse-inspired ensemble for a Disney trip -- and for someone who loves polka dots as much as I do, choosing just one option might be difficult!  These are some of the polka dotted pieces currently in my closet, but I'm definitely coveting this other option from Lindy Bop (it reminds me of both Minnie and Mary Poppins!).  I also love having fun with Disney-themed accessories, like these embellished ears from House of Mouse, heart-shaped sunglasses and Minnie Mouse bag!

I'm definitely a fan of thematic dressing, and these dresses make me feel like I could've walked right out of the stories of Cinderella, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.

I have a slight obsession with novelty prints, especially those that have anything to do with food.  I essentially plan all of my vacations around what we're eating -- and this is especially true in WDW, where there are so many wonderful restaurants and things to eat!  One of my favorite things to do is have tea at The Grand Floridian.  I also love the character breakfasts at The Crystal Palace, any of the 1950s restaurants in Hollywood Studios, and the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at the Beach Club Resort.  I guess my choices in prints reflect my preference in eateries!

I am always astounded to see how June and Amelia manage to pack for their trips (in vintage Samsonite, no less!).  For instance, it can be a real challenge to figure out how to pack a petticoat, and sometimes I forgo bringing most accessories in order to fit everything in my luggage!  However, I do like to bring a brooch or two on most trips, as they don't take up much space and won't get tangled like necklaces do.  I don't usually wear a lot of jewelry, but like a lot of vintage-loving ladies, I have a fairly sizable brooch collection.  These subtle Disney-inspired pins would be the perfect accent for any wardrobe!

Mary Poppins "Sister Suffragette" brooch: Flapper Doodle

I know not everyone will opt to follow my lead when it comes to what one wears, but the way I see it, if you can't have fun with fashion at the Happiest Place on Earth, where can you??  So if want to wear a Muppet print frock to Muppet Vision 3D, a 1950s poodle skirt to the Sci-Fi Dine-in or a dirndl dress to the Biergarten in Epcot.. why not?!  Disney World is definitely my happy place, and since my #1 rule of personal style is to wear what brings you joy, I can't possibly resist dressing in a way that reflects all of the magic, wonder and delight that Disney World represents.

What about you?  Do you like to dress up in a Disney-fied way?
If you have any photos from past Disney trips, please share them!  (And if you've been to Disney World or Disneyland, what's your favorite ride?  Mine is the Haunted Mansion!)

Thanks so much to June + Amelia for asking me to guest post today!  Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to see you around The Soubrette Brunette!

June's Wedding, Part I: Getting Ready

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

robes by silkandmore via Etsy
So, as y'all know, I got married back in September.  On September 27, 2014, to be exact.  We just got the digital files of our wedding photos back from our photographers so I'm FINALLY sharing them!  I'm going to write this little blurb and then let the photos speak for themselves because I think they describe the day a lot better than I can.  Amelia + I curled up and tried to narrow down the photos but gave up and decided we'd just post things in little sections instead.

Collin +  I have amazing family and friends, we really do.  We had  family + friends travel down to Georgia from Tennessee and Illinois (both are REALLY long drives) to be in and help with our wedding.  Having our six closest friends be in our wedding and be in the same place, at the same time to make us laugh and keep us sane, was amazing.  Also, we were fortunate enough to have the sweetest photographers, The Ulmers, who not only did all our photos, but participated in our day and were there with tips and a helping hand when needed -- we were spoiled.  That being said, what better place to start than the "Getting Ready" photos? (all photos by Ulmer Studios).

Overall, planning a wedding in Georgia while living in Tennessee was stressful and things went wrong... A LOT of things.  But in the end, it doesn't matter because I have a really awesome dude that I love a lot in the next room watching X-Files at obnoxiously high volumes as I write this at 11pm... and every now and then he walks by and gives me a kiss me on the forehead.  I can't wait to share the next part with y'all.... it'll be coming soon!
