Friday Favorites #34

Friday, November 14, 2014

So it's time for Friday Favorites!  We took a break last week for our mini-vacation but we're back!  When King Jesse Lacey says it's time for colds & overcoats... we believe him (this is a reference to the singer and a song by one of our favorite bands, Brand New. You can find the song here, it's amazing).

Modcloth has done a huge sale on outerwear since the last time I posted any (here) but 1) I missed the sale and 2) It's even colder and now there are even more options!  So, with Black Friday coming up I am wishlisti'ng the shit out of about a million items.  I do this for several reasons but the primary reason is so that ON Black Friday/Cyber Monday, I can check my list on each site and easily see if any of the items I want are on sale.  I did this last year and it worked wonderfully! UPDATE: Modcloth is doing a 25% off outwear sale today with promo code COATS25!

I have no idea why it always takes me so freaking long to finally decide to buy scarves + gloves every year (especially in Nashville, it's already 30 degrees here in the mornings.)  So, while I was bored I sat down and started lurking around trying to find things to match my 4 coats (one is faux fur leopard, one navy, one red and one ivory) and this is the list I came up with!  Of course I love the plaid options, but I think I might end up snagging the Slouchy Faux Fur Scarf to pair with the Just Called to Say I Glove You Gloves for sort of a dressy look.  I love black winter accessories, they make great staples and are interchangeable with a lot of my cardigans + lighter outerwear.

Amelia + I never do gifts for each other but last year we instated a "stocking policy".  It's a fun + inexpensive way to gift each other things we'll love but keep it cheap.  So, now I'm always on the lookout for small items that are useful and still fun gifts.  Who wouldn't love a stocking full of Lush Cosmetics?!

Collin + I haven't even thought about starting to decorate for Christmas yet... ok I lied... of course I've thought about it.  But, because we're pretty adamant about having a real tree every year,  and because those usually don't start popping up until after Thanksgiving... we can't start this early. Which is sort of a bummer!  I have a few friends who have two trees and I think this will be the year I take the leap and do the same.  I've had my eye on a tinsel/aluminum tree for YEARS now and while I'm not willing to give up my house smelling like real pine - I think this would be a good way to have the best of both worlds! Hello tinsel town, here I come!

  1. Love all of these. I own both D and I in the coat section and both are SO GOOD. I love the Collectif coats too but they're a biiiit out of my price range. This is definitely putting me in the holiday spirit!!

  2. I have my tree, stockings, gifts, and about $200 worth of decor so I am READY but was banned on putting any of it up until December 6th by my boyfriend. Sigh. It's a fair restriction so I will wait...impatiently!

  3. I wish it was freezing enough for me to get my hands on that burgundy coat!!

It's funny how Halloween and Christmas always feel longer than a month lol I've always had real trees and I just don't like the mess + how short I am compared to it. Decorating it as a short person is not fun! haha

  4. Congratulations to the winner!

I just started working at Lush in Adelaide (Australia), and we have so many fantastic presents that are perfect for stocking stuffers! I think you two would love the Santa baby lip tint and its matching lip scrub (both with a cola type scent and a beautiful red colour)... And the snowman fun or snowman shower jelly! So cute and fun :) xx

  5. I am seriously so glad you told me about the sale! But I am SO SAD I just paid my mortgage... I would've rather had a coat. ; ) haha. And I agree, so ready to decorate and listen to Christmas records!

  6. Girl, you are SET. I've been hoarding vintage decorations I've stumbled across at the flea market ALL YEAR so I'm super excited about finally getting to put them out! December 6th!? haha. I would feel the same way! I'm at the mercy of tree sellers. I can't start any of the decorating with the tree around, it just wouldn't feel right. ; )

  7. I really love the navy one... I wonder how much I would wear navy! haha

And I've always had real ones and the mess it totally worth it to me, I'm just smitten with them. And I also love big trees, like basically touching the ceiling.. so I just end up grabbing a ladder. lol. It is a bit annoying though.

  8. OHHHHH you're making me want to run to the Lush in my town and give them all my money! I might have to run by tomorrow and just pick up a few small things to get my fix. ; )

What's your favorite product so far?

  9. Love all of the coats, I will take one of each! :)

My tree is up, we can't have real as I'm allergic so we can decorate whenever.

And this is my first winter wearing vintage and I'm learning I need more closed-toe shoes, tights, thicker slips, more coats, more gloves, etc... It has been very cold the last several days and I'm new to this wearing skirts and dresses in freezing temps haha.

  10. My winter wear is pretty lacking. Yesterday I had to save a sailboat that broke it's mooring line, and I was really wishing I had some gloves. I'm going to try and get a pair that are smartphone friendly.
A couple of those coats on modcloth are gorgeous, but all gone already!
I haven't done Christmas in years, but I do love having a tree. My house is too small though so we just put up a large pine swag my friend's father makes us.

I love that Intrigue All About It Coat in Camel coat. It's simple, yet I swoon every time I see it <3

  14. Haha - did you get your fix? Have a look at the Christmas catalogue (they should be online as well as in stores), there is just so much fantastic things out for Christmas I am exploding with festive spirit! I could honestly ramble all day about what my favourite products are haha. The Christmas penguin however is based on the world's smallest penguin which is an Australian penguin :) I think you girls would love the wizard bubble bar or wizard gift set if they have any left where you are xx
