Friday Favorites #32

Friday, October 24, 2014

June, here. Time for another Friday Favorites!  Random story time for the intro today, I was in Walgreens yesterday browsing the drugstore makeup and wandered over to the Halloween aisle... it was pretty quiet in there and I started paying a little more attention to the music.... it was CHRISTMAS MUSIC... IN OCTOBER.... what the actual f*ck Walgreens, what happened to the Monster Mash?!  I mentioned it to the cashier and he said by Mid-November he was convinced he was going to hate Christmas music forever. I can't blame him.  Am I the only one that thinks it's a bit early?

We've had a week of weather right around 60 degrees so I've been pulling out all my plaid + flannels for my cozy nights at home.  This is the time of year where Collin + I like to see how long we can take it before feeling the need to turn our heat on... it's been a pretty constant 62 degrees in our house.. brrrr.  I've already started breaking out my plaids (here + here) but, some of my favorite "shirts" to wear with a circle skirt are actually bodycon wiggle dresses.  They're really versatile wardrobe pieces because I can layer over them (skirts) or layer under them (stockings).  I actually do this with all my wiggle dresses but the lighter cotton ones make exceptionally good tops and tuck in easily.

Also, if you like dresses 1, 2 and 5 pictured above, use promo code "SAVE20" to get 20% off sitewide on  Boohoo has a lot of cute, inexpensive things, all my favorite Bardot Tops are from there, lots of great staple solids.

I actually had some store credit saved up and just purchased the Gem and I Heel from Miss L Fire's new AW '14 collection.  I love the green and I'm normally not a "sparkle" kind of lady but once they're on your feet, you really don't notice all that much.   I'm also a huge fan of the little bows + chunky heels!  Also, Houndstooth & mustard & subtly checkered blue laces = the perfect heel.  I always love things by Poetic Licence but these Language Artist Heels are beyond amazing.  For something a little more subtle, I love the look of the leather woven into suede in these Portrait Heels it almost looks like ribbon and it's such a great color red.

I ran across the art for Mad Men: The Illustrated World on Tumblr and had no idea it was a book so I was INCREDIBLY excited when I realized it was. Amazing illustrations. Paper dolls (for multiple seasons, you can have '60s OR '70s Joan).  Illustrated hair tutorials with Betty Draper. A guide to '60s mixed drinks with cocktail recipes. Hors d'oeuvre recipes.  I don't know that there could be a more perfect book, I snagged mine for $12 on Amazon.... SCORE.

Besame Cosmetics

I've been seeing great things about Besame Cosmetics popping up ALL over the internet lately.  It's actually the primary cosmetic product featured in American Horror Story this season and you can see it lying on Bette + Dot's dressing table and in Wednesday's episode, Emma Roberts was rocking the Cherry Red, it's all so beautiful, I can't help but want it strictly based on the packaging. Has anyone tried it yet?  I'm definitely more of a red lady but those pinks... might convince me to occasionally convert.

from Populaire
Populaire is a french, romantic comedy set in 1959.  Rose is a terrible secretary but a damn good typist. Her handsome boss resolves to turn her into the fastest typist in the world.  This movie is visually amazing but it's actually equally as entertaining as it is lovely.  I had so much fun watching it (even if her fingernails do remind me of the first season of Dexter.... Ice Truck Killer....).

// Also, in other news, the ever-sweet Denialle from The Oblong Box Shop is offering our readers 10% off with promo code "JUNEBUGS".  Go grab yourself a cute comet clutch or a sweetheart top! xoxo

What are your favorite things this Friday?!

  1. I loooooove Populaire! And I still haven't watched Mad Men but I adore all those illustrations - especially the paper dolls!

  6. Hope at DisneylandOctober 24, 2014 at 6:26 PM

I've tried Besame Cosmetics and actually attended one of their 1940s Hair/Makeup workshops in their boutique and have seen them at other vintage-type of events this year. A few weeks, for instance, they were in attendance at the Dapper Day Expo at Disneyland and gave out one of their lipstick matchstick samplers to people that stopped by their booth. The sampler included Red Hot Red and Cherry Red. I was never much a red lipstick gal (or any lipstick to be honest) but now I find myself reaching for those samples more and more and might just go for the full size. I know you all wear red a lot so I think you should definitely check them out. I also plan on exploring their pinks soon too.

  7. I've have 'Populaire' on my Netflix "list" for a while, I really must get around to watching it! And yes - I totally agree on the whole christmas thing, shops & supermarkets in the UK start stocking christmas items at the end of August, and it annoys me every year! Worse though, I know it has a massive effect on some people - Mr LPU works with people with physical & developmental disabilities and literally cannot cope with seeing things at the "wrong" time, and yet have to be kept in their routine of going to certain places & shops at the correct time on the right day...I'm sure you can imagine all the issues this causes :(

  8. I love those shoes! All of them! You ladies kill me with the Friday favorites posts. Always makes me want to buy stuff! That being said they're one of my favorite posts you ladies do.
