June's Wedding Invitations + Prep

Saturday, September 20, 2014

One week until the wedding!  Collin and I got engaged over a year and and I've felt like I've gotten off fairly easy in the stress department on this wedding planning business... until the last month or so.  There was a huge mix-up with the paper for our invitations getting back ordered and a bunch of the envelopes being misprinted.  So, while everyone knew our wedding date, I felt awful sending them out less than a month before the wedding and also having a handful returned because the addresses were printed wrong.  Regardless, everyone has them now so I thought I would share them with you!

I'd seen designs from ElloThere floating around online and was so excited to have them create something for Collin + I.  They were so communicative and great, even when we had a couple of last minute requests (I'll share those later ;) ).  I love that they gave my dress detail so it wouldn't just be printed white and that they even gave Collin a little plaid bow tie and striped socks.  I'd had high hopes for ordering vintage stamps and using them on all the envelopes, but when you start running out of time, you're like... f*ck it, birds + flowers will work JUST FINE.

I picked up a few different ribbons to tie up the invitations, mainly because I knew I'd get tired of staring at the same one.  While I was freaking out about getting all our invitations stuffed and mailed out in one night, Collin made sure to 1) keep the mood ligthhearted and 2) get invitations out to the REALLY important people... and make sure their invites were properly doodled upon.  Then, I left for Georgia to beg Katie to help me with more wedding crafts, do another fitting with my dress and do another run through with my hair.

If anyone has been wondering what we've been doing with allllll thattttt ribbon from last wedding post, our venue had a lot of restrictions as to what we could have during our "exit" so after deciding bubbles weren't really our thing, Amelia and I started frantically googling trying to figure out other options.  I was so happy to find these ribbon wands!  I honestly can't wait to see all the men in my family waving these things... the photos will be the perfect mixture of genuine happiness and reluctance.

Macarons from Harvest & Honey
Last but not least, I arrived home to Tennessee this week to meet up with my friend Jenny, who runs her own little private baking business, Harvest & Honey, so we could talk macarons, hang out and so she could (amazingly) send me home with an armful of her baking displays to use for our dessert table. She'll be baking about 60 macarons for the wedding... so excited. She sent me home with samples. My last act of "stuff to do in Tennessee before going back to Georgia next week" was to FINALLY get our engagement photos done with our friends + wedding photographers, Ulmer Studios. Here's a sneak peak.

What was the last week or so before your wedding like?
What did your invitations (or what will your future invitations) look like?

  2. I love your invitations!!! I'm surprised you even have time to blog!! I felt so overwhelmed the week before my wedding!! But I was lucky to have assertive, helpful people to take the reins from me the day of! My mom and I did most of the crafty things ourselves, including our invitations!! I got married in 2008 and while I might do a few things differently now, it was still the most magical day of my life!!

Well you look like you're well on your way!

The week before my wedding was hellish. We got married in the backyard of my childhood home, but we were already living in Utah at that point, so there was a lot of last minute stuff to accomplish. Also my custom made dress based off a of vintage Vogue pattern? Total rubbish. I had to buy a David's Bridal dress 3 or 4 days before the wedding and it broke my heart because it wasn't at all what I wanted. I still get upset about it over five years later.

I too did ribbon streamers: http://grimmricksen.blogspot.com/2009/06/details-streamers.html

Oh and I designed our invites. Super simple but they drove our families crazy because the photo I used was only from the neck down. My theory was if youre getting invited to the wedding, you should already know what we look like and "get" our humor.

  5. So cute! By the week before my wedding I was just like, screw it I want to be married ha. I had a very simple wedding so it wasn't too crazy. I honestly don't really even remember what I was doing. :)

  6. I've loved seeing your wedding prep over the last few months sweetheart! I cannot contain my excitement for you and Collin!!

I was a frantic mess the week running up to our wedding! I was making my bridesmaids flower bouquets the night before and putting the last touches to the venue! It's all worth it in the end though and remember to not worry about all of your guests :) Take a few moments to take it all in, as the day will go by so quickly! <3 xx

  7. Your wedding invites are the cutest! I love something that shows personality! Also, ribbon wands will make for awesome pictures!

  8. Such cute invites! I love that they are so personal! I haven't gotten married yet but as a girl of course Ive given a lot of though to what my wedding will be like. Of course this means Ive purused etsy for invites. I have found some really darling ones. I think Id have a tough time choosing something classic and romantic feeling with like lace or something and something really quirky and fitting to our personalities like these vinyl invites I saw. I think it also depends what time of the year I was getting married anyways!

  9. I feel dumb asking, but why do you send an invite to Tim Burton productions? Does something happen when you do that?

  10. Oh geez- these are so darling and perfect! I've seen their designs around and they are so great, how fun you had them do your invites. Your wedding is going to be so perfect!

  11. This is so sweet! I must be feeling extra emotional today, because reading this is making me tear up a little bit. I freaking love weddings. The invitations are really cute, and I love all of the details that they put in for you. And those ribbon wands are perfect.

  12. Your wedding invites are super adorable!
I have a bit of a desktop publishing and design background, so I was able to design our save the dates, invites and other misc paper things so they all match and go together, and save money by getting them printed through VistaPrint.

  13. I'm not going to lie. The last week before our wedding was stressful but that was due to things beyond our control. Our friends made our invitations and they were inspired by Sleeping Beauty since that was the general inspiration for our whole wedding (hence the real wedding pic of our cake topper in my little avatar on the side here). They looked old-englishy and he made a custom wax seal with a spinning wheel for the back of the envelopes as well as a custom wedding stamp with a hidden mickey and a map scroll of our locations. Some of them didn't get to their intended destinations or arrived in shambles due to the post office lack of care, but that didn't stop those that wanted to join us from coming to our wedding. :) Wishing you and Colin happy days before you say I DO. <3

  15. I, too, am planning a wedding (October 31, 2015 is the big day!!) and being that I, too, am in law school (my 3L year...what?!), I decided to begin preparations NOW. I'm a DIY-er so there will be many projects over the next year, including ribbon wands! My church has the same restrictions and I also am not one for bubbles. Thank goodness for Pinterest, eh?

I'm so excited to see how everything looks on your big day! No matter what (and I know this is easier said than done), remember that it's about you two lovebirds. Those little details you've been stressing over will mean nothing compared to the love you two will share.

    Best wishes!!

  16. Everything looks amazing. The weeks leading up to my wedding were stressful too. Both sets of parents took over our wedding and decided most things. My husband wanted a big traditional Scottish wedding, which he got. But I'm dyspraxic and just a tad socially awkward ;) and hate tradition or conforming to others ideals, so I didn't much like it. I loved marrying my best friend and soul mate. The best thing is in less than 3 years on our 10th wedding anniversary, we are running away to get married alone on a beach in Mauritius. I have the blue 1950s cupcake dress I wanted to wear but want allowed last time and I shall have pastel pink hair. I can't wait 👦👰💝

  17. The invitations are so cute and that sneak peek picture is adorable. I love it! Can't wait to see stuff from your wedding.

  18. I'm going to assume these ladies are super busy at the moment and answer on their behalf (or as best as I can!), I know that sending invites to Mickey and Minnie/Disney, you get a personalised card back in the mail... I'm assuming the same goes with Tim Burton productions (or Collin is hoping so!). :)

  19. They really are fun, and my friend bakes them so she was sweet enough to send me all her baking displays to use for the wedding.

  20. I am incredibly neurotic and also don't sleep SO I have a bad habit of trying to fit everything in haha. I absolutely LOVE your invitations and wedding photos, I can't wait until we get ours back!

  21. Oh, I can say now that my dress absolutely DID NOT fit like I wanted it to, I lost a good bit of weight from the time I bought it until now and my seamstress couldn't move the boning into the proper places, I wore it anyways, but I wasn't happy with it and it's all I thought about all day long. Oh well, what can you do.

I totally agree about the ribbons though - SO time consuming.

Hahaha well as long as you like them, that's all that matters! People said the said thing about the engagement photo I shared above- and I absolutely love it.

  22. Haha I thought the EXACT same thing by the time the day came around. Honestly SO glad it's over.

  23. Aww thank you! I absolutely loved them and was so happy with the result. Also, I am eagerly awaiting the photos from the ribbon wand waving because I think they're going to be adorable!

  24. Well thank you, lady! I will say, I'm SO HAPPY that it's over!!!! I enjoyed the day and look back on it fondly but there were a few hangups of course, but I'm excited to share the photos when we get them!

  25. Well thank you! We heavily corresponded with the designers so we were so excited that they turned out looking so personal!

Also, we ALMOST got those vinyl invite and changed them up a bit to use as our programs! But, we ran out of time, I absolutely LOVE those!

  26. You've got that right! Nothing back yet, but fingers crossed!!!!

  27. Thank you so much, I absolutely love their designs and well and was so happy I thought to bookmark them a while back. Also, I can't wait to get our photos back, anxiously awaiting!

  29. Awww! How freaking sweet is that!? I love weddings but now that mine is over, I love watching OTHER people's a lot more haha. So stressful!

And thank you, the invitations were absolutely perfectly personalized!

Those ribbon wands... most time consuming project EVER.

  30. Well thank you ma'am! And that's awesome! If I'd had more of a background in that sort of thing, I would've done the exact same thing. So much easier!

  31. Thank you so much, I absolutely love them and the ribbon wands were so much fun!

  32. This sounds absolutely WONDERFUL (idea wise) but so stressful! I'm honestly SO happy the wedding is over now and we can fall into normalcy again... can't freaking wait. lol

  33. I am about to take my 2L finals! Are you getting married during 4L? If so, you are a BRAVE woman doing that while studying for the bar and you have my ever-lasting admiration! haha. But I totally agree, I'm not a Pinterest fan but I found SO many great ideas googling and reading message boards and other blogs!

I absolutely cannot wait to share the photos with all our readers! I'm eagerly awaiting their return!

  34. I can TOTALLY understand this, I would totally take a handful of friends and family and get married somewhere random on some courthouse steps if I had a to-do over. I hope your second wedding is absolutely amazing and blue cupcake dress sounds absolutely AMAZING! You'll have to post a photo, I'm totally intrigued!

  35. Sorry but I'm dying to know where the blue top and pink skirt came from!
