Friday Favorites #28

Friday, September 12, 2014

It's June! I'll admit when we get really busy, Friday Favorites are the first to go and I really love writing these posts!  It's always fun to share what I find in the little corners of the internet with you guys or whatever is on my mind/what I'm obsessed with any given week!  Here are my favorites this week:

FF 9-12-14

As I mentioned in my Wednesday post, I've been on the lookout for more tops and if they're work appropriate, that's doubly awesome.  I don't QUITE have two wardrobes, but there are definitely things I would and wouldn't ever wear to work, I work in a type of law where I don't see clients ALL that often, but attorneys from other firms still cycle through our office pretty frequently.  I love all of these tops because they're all vintage-inspired, so they're within my normal niche, but they're also work appropriate.  I especially love the Slate in the Day Top in Green and Gray.

I literally wear shoes until they die. And if it comes choosing a dress (or skirt) or a pair of shoes, the dress will always win. But, that also means that I buy a lot of solid colored shoes and and always less than enthused when it comes to picking out whatever shoes I'm wearing on any given day.  I absolutely love all three pairs of shoes above because they're plain enough to wear with anything (leopard is color for me ;) ) but still have a little something extra.

I absolutely love these little sugar cube skulls by dembones on Etsy!  I've actually purchased them a few times (for myself and other people) and I'm always surprised by how cute they are and how well they travel.  If you're going to sit around drinking tea or coffee with people, and sweeten your coffee within an inch of it's life... the sugar cubes might as well be cute.

So I've had sheath dress lust ever since Amelia received her dress from eShakti.  I love sheath dresses because they're really great pieces for work, specifically because they're casual and can be worn with a cardigan and stockings to cover my tattoos, I'll be ordering a few during their next sale.  If you comment your email below I can send you a $35 gift code.

By the way, they have AMAZING sales, I got two dresses for $50 because of the combination of a BOGO sale + my credit for signing up for the site. One of which is the harlequin dress pictured above.  It's normally a maxi dress, which isn't really my thing, but after seeing that both Dollie and Ashleeta had theirs modified to be tea length (you can customize the shit out of their dresses, it's amazing) I ordered myself one.  The print was just too good to pass up! It's actually "harlequin week" on Dollie's "#ootdsocialclub" on instagram right now so if you check it out' you'll see a lot of lovely ladies rocking this dress.

Did (or does) anyone else watch Pushing Daisies?  Collin and I caught the pilot episode in 2007 and watched it religiously until it ended abruptly in 2009 with NO closure at all (ugh)... I own the show on DVD but refuse to watch the last episode and I'm saving it for the ultimate rainy day.  For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a sort of a "forensic fairytale" featuring a pie-maker gifted with the mysterious ability to reanimate the dead by touching them... but of course, there's a catch.  Midway through the first episode, he learns that his childhood sweetheart and best friend Chuck was murdered on a cruise ship and he reanimates her... but can't bring himself to touch her again and instead chooses keep her alive.. and of course, they fall in love again!

Chuck from Pushing Daisies was always a HUGE inspiration for me style-wise (pictured above) and to this day I would die to own some of the pieces she wore in the show.  In 2007, I was wearing vintage and begging the ladies bringing it into Plato's Closet to let my buy it from them outright (Plato's employees weren't allowed to buy vintage for stock for the store), dresses and skirts were incredibly infrequent and I was terribly unsuccessful with trying to find anything in thrift stores in Augusta, GA, so I started sort of picking up any old pair of cowboy boots or 70s Lacoste polos I could find to style with denim skirts or whatever else but seeing the pieces in this show made me start casting out my feelers and little farther and I was going on trips to Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC to try to find things.  Forever in love with Miss Charlotte "Chuck" Charles!

  5. OH MY GOD SAMMI YOU NEED TO SEE IT!

I got mine last night after I came home from running around at about 9 pm + a gingham dress and I fell in love with both. I'm so glad you convinced me to try them again after that little bust mix-up from last time! xoxo

That is the best customization idea ever!!! I love thier stuff and there is no time like the present to invest! I never do maxis because they look horrible on short people with flats and I don't wear big shoes to even it out. I work for the courts but we have a very lax dress code that's basically no t-shirts or pjs and you can wear jeans on Friday but I totally dress up unless I feel crummy. I wish we had a dress code sometimes because it would encourage people to dress better.

  11. I've been looking for new work attire the last few weeks and struggling to find pieces that are 'me' but also smart enough for the office. Those sugar cubes are amazing!! I totally loved Pushing Daisies and was SO fricking gutted when it just ended!! Have a wonderful week darling xx

  12. I love Pushing Daisies! That show is so darling. Ned and Chuck just had such a sweet, quirky chemistry, and the fact that they couldn't touch just brought me right back to the kind of crushes I had in high school, where any time I was near them it was like I was electrified.
Oh, and leopard is definitely a neutral. I have even successfully convinced my manager of this fact, so I'm allowed to wear leopard shoes as part of our "neutral shoe" dress code policy.

I don't do maxi's either, if you're short I feel like there's absolutely nothing you can do to make them look good on you haha. I can't believe you guys don't have a dress code! I know our court clerks' office does because I've chatted with some of them when I ran to get stamped filed copies of things. So weird! I always feel like dress codes can have that effect as well, I have a love hate relationship with dress codes haha

  53. Silver Cat Tea PartySeptember 14, 2014 at 12:36 PM

I love those violet emerald green heels and the skull sugar cubes!!! How perfect would they be for a Halloween tea! I think I will have to go and order some... like right now! ;) seriously! I REALLY love that harlequin print tea length dress. Coupon code... yes please!!!! (xtina.p@gmail.com). :D I would not have given this dress a second glance as a maxi but when I see it in the tea length version it is so wonderfully vintage looking! <3 Great finds this week!

  55. I am trying desperately to refresh my wardrobe on a very tight budget. A coupon would help tremendously! Thanks for sharing this site...they have a ton of cute things. vampee765@hotmail.com :)

  56. I love the blouses! I tend to dress more conservatively myself, but because it's so hard to find shirts like the ones pictured, I often pick up standard button-down blouses that can be found at target or something & tie a bow with a nylon scarf or thick ribbon under the collar. It helps me mix & match colors to my mood and make multiple uses for things, plus it's inexpensive! Also, I'd love it if you could send me the discount code, if that's still happening (alicat98111@gmail.com) please & thanks!! <3

  62. So far so good, I think I'm going to start adding an additional inch to my custom bust measurement because they seem to do it too tight every time and when I measure the dresses they're coming up an inch too small (I suppose they're being mis-measured, I've had a few friends complain about this.) Anywho, coupon sent, I hope you find something lovely! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  63. OH! You're going to have to let me know what you think! I hope you love it! I always love finding things to watch while I'm multitasking haha. And that's awesome, it's definitely something I should be looking into more often because of my height. I sent the coupon to the email you use for disqus, I hope that's ok! <3

  64. I know! I absolutely LOVE those green heels and they're a really unique color, I need to start putting a little money aside in my paychecks to get some more "fall shoes." I was the same way, when I see a maxi dress, I just keep on looking, I never would've put 2+2 together that I could chop that extra length off in the customizations. So happy to hear you got it, I hope you find something cute!
