Steady Clothing Giveaway + Betty Bakes Dress + The Flying Dead

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

It's time for our monthly Steady Clothing post but instead of eliminating photos for the sake of brevity, this time, we decided to make it unofficial Steady Week (because, why not) and do two separate posts.  That also means we can share more photos of our dudes.  Collin in particular is always doing something completely ridiculous.

Also inside this post is our very first giveaway! Steady has been kind enough to offer the dress featured in this post to one of our readers, Amelia's post will be Thursday, and her outfit will also be offered in a second, separate giveaway (and yes, you can ABSOLUTELY enter both!)

Outfit Details:
Betty Bakes Dress c/o Steady Clothing
Belt  |  Trashy Diva
Gingham Wedges  |  Walmart (luckiest find ever!)
Hair Flower c/o  Your One Stop Pinup Shop
  Brooch |  Luxulite
Corset  |  Meschantes Corsetry
 Purse  |  vintage

Meet the Betty Bakes Dress! It's a high-waisted, faux denim wiggle dress with adjustable straps, a sweetheart neckline in the front and a shirred back.  Depending on the month, Steady will sometimes surprise us with the items they send, but this month, Amelia + I (and the guys) chose our own.  I love the gingham detailing + the little buttons and knew it'd go perfectly with these shoes that have been sitting around my closet unworn for a little too long.  Collin + I stopped and picked up some cupcakes on the way to take photos because if Betty Bakes, SHE BAKES (or she has a cupcake shop bake for her... my grandma would be embarrassed, but Collin was entertained).

It only took Collin about five seconds to choose The Flying Dead Western.  Besides the name being pretty much awesome, there is this small niche of attractive short sleeve men's western shirts that don't step over the line into looking full-out rodeo, and this falls happily into that category. It doesn't look like he's about to go bull-riding and I consider that a good thing.  We loved the red snaps, piping + embroidered sparrows.  I told Collin that I felt like we were about to head off to the Jukebox Jamboree to hang out with Cry-Baby and the other drapes.

Our past Steady posts have included everything from a day in an atomic-era neighborhood to a showcase of some of our favorite novelty prints and to make things about 1000x easier for y'all (and for us) you can find it all under our newly created, Steady Clothing label (also seen the left sidebar. )  I own a good few Steady pieces now, but this was my first wiggle dress and I can tell you guys, I usually avoid them like the plague, but it won't be my last.

For all our wonderful readers, Steady offered 10% off until Friday July 25th using promo code 10Peaches but as I mentioned earlier, they're also hosting 2 giveaways on our blog this week!  To enter the giveaway for the Betty Bakes Dress, which ends SUNDAY, see the widget below.  Like I said above, there will be a second giveaway beginning Thursday for Amelia's outfit, but you can enter both:

Super cute June! I love everything you paired with this dress! You should wear more wiggle dresses! They look great on you!

  2. Oh my gosh, you're a mega-babe in this dress! Wowza! The gingham is such a great touch here. Sadly, I can't pull off a wiggle dress, so I'll be waiting for Amelia's giveaway, but this is soo adorable (and Collin is, too!).

  3. I love love love both swing and wiggle. But there's something about a wiggle that just screams "sexy pin up!" Always been more of a Bettie Page/Dita Von Teese gal than Susie Home-maker. This looks awesome on you by the way :)

Just love this dress! I want to hang out with you gals. So fun!

  5. I'm more of a fit + flare girl myself, I like to spin around in those dresses, plus, they make excellent dresses for nights out swing dancing!

  6. You guys are adorable! I entered the contest, despite being afraid of wiggle dresses. The fuller the skirt the better is usually my motto. However, I want to be brave & try one. In the mean time, I should start working on my abs in case I win (mainly why I am afraid of wiggle dresses haha)

  7. I love, love, LOVE this dress! And being a short lady myself (5 foot) its nice to see that its not super long. All my favorite dresses are from Steady Clothing so I'm really hoping for a win to add this to my collection!
Ps- You and your fiancé are suuuuuper adorable =o) Love the blog...keep up the great work!

  8. Oh my God. Go ahead and give me another reason to have an uncontrollable girl crush on you. You look fantastic.
Totally do the baked goods bribe- in ok my boyfriend to a food fare and bought him a whole bag of cake for future bribes. I think ahead ;)

  9. That dress is amazing! And you look stunning! Wiggle dresses are my favorite! And I love Collin's shirt!

  10. I prefer fit and flare type dresses more because I don't really have much of curves to speak of on the lower half! (Slim hips.) And I have most definitely bribed the spouse with baked goodies. Especially homemade ones ;-)

  11. On another completely different topic...could I pls ask how you don't get your corset lines to show on tight fitting plain clothes, like your featured dress? Something I can't quite master on the odd occasion I slip a corset on. Thanks! xx

  12. Girl, you look HOT! I did all the stuff for entry (love the way you've got that set up, it makes things so easy), and I've got my fingers crossed I win. I don't usually do wiggles dresses or pencil skirts; the difference between my hips and thighs and my waist means that it's really hard to find stuff that fits right. I've been trying to bust out of my rut a little bit, though, so something like this would be a nice addition to my wardrobe.

This dress looks amazing on you! I love how you matched your shoes to the small gingham detail on the dress too! Also like how the red details of his shirt tie your outfits together. So adorable!

  14. Seriously cool giveaway, ladies. Entered on each and every front, with fingers (and toes and pigtails!) all super firmly crossed.

  15. I love the photo of Colin with the cupcake on his head! ^___^ So funny! I try to avoid baking my husband sweets because I usually end up eating more sugar than I should, but I do make a mean brownie so I pull that out for special bribe-worthy situations ~___^

I can't imagine that this dress would look anywhere near as good on me as it does on you, and I wear pretty much exclusively fit and flare so it's way out of my comfort zone, but it's so lovely that I have my fingers crossed I win anyway!

  16. Whoa! I never liked you guys on facebook? Thank goodness for giveaways! Reminding me to follow people XD

  17. I love me a wiggle dress, but I have to get more fit and flares for the summer, they're just more comfy!

  18. Such a cute dress!! I don't have many dresses, but tend to go for free hip dresses/skirts because of my hips.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love that is so simple but absolutely gorgeous. i need more wiggle dresses in my life.

  20. Well thank you very much! And ugh people say that and I feel so insecure in them, not very much material, every imperfection glaringly obvious... it gives me anxiety just thinking about a closet full of them. haha But of course, I own a few for my braver days!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well thank you, ma'am! I almost sent you photos before the post and had you tell me the honest to god truth about them... haha. I really love the gingham as well.. I'm addicted. Can't wait for you to see Amelia's post tomorrow because I think you'll look amazing in the outfit!

  22. Well thank you! Cupcakes make everything better!
    xoxo

  23. I always feel like a mid-century vixen in a wiggle dress! haha. But of course, I'm partial to both (though I own FAR more swing dresses than wiggle dresses). And I wish I had the bravery to be full-time Bettie or Dita... I need some lessons in not giving any f*cks. haha

    ReplyDelete
  24. Aww well thank you! I wish it was convenient for us to just have a Junebugs reader meet up + fun day! haha

    ReplyDelete
  25. You and I are alike then! I definitely prefer fit + flare dresses, especially for comfort, but there is nothing quite like the feeling of a night out in a wiggle dress!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well thank you! And I ordered the dress despite being afraid of wiggle dresses. Sometimes they have a way of surprising you once you put them on!

That's my motto as well... petticoats, petticoats + more petticoats! And when in doubt, throw on a pair of seamed panty hose, they smooth out curves nicely, it's totally what I do on lazy days when I don't feel like lacing into my corset haha

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hahaha you are too sweet, thank you so much!

Also, that is a completely genius plan! I need to take notes because the future bribe idea.... unbeatable! : D

    ReplyDelete
  28. Aww thank you so much! I actually don't own very many! This is maybe my second or third, I own lots of pencil skirts but just recently got brave enough to upgrade to dresses.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can definitely see that! I'm actually more of a fit + flare girl myself, but after this post, I decided it wouldn't hurt me to incorporate a few more wiggle dresses into my wardrobe!

And oh, definitely the homemade ones! I wish I had more time to bake, used to dabble in creating recipes/baking from scratch. My fiancee is a chef so I always feel like whatever I make is going to horrify him haha

  30. My particular corset (the way it's made) simply doesn't really have lines, on the occasion that you CAN see corset lines, sometimes I'll slide on a pair of Spanx or control top panty hose to smooth out the lines. xoxo

  31. Well thank you m'lady! We wanted to make entering as easy as possible and we didn't want to have to be the ones to choose (luckily, it'll choose both winners for us! haha)

I usually don't buy wiggle dresses either but this time, when we got to choose our own items, I decided I needed to get over myself and try it out! Sometimes it's fun to have something in your closet you don't wear TOO often but you know that you'll feel good in it when you break it out!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you! I actually haven't really been able to wear those shoes very often because what I'm typically wearing is patterned, so I was glad I got to break them out. : )

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good luck! I'm so curious to see who wins! : )

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well we're happy you did! Giveaways are so much fun, this is our first and now all I want to do is give people things all the time haha

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hahaha that is typical Collin... there is actually a video of him shoving the entire thing into his mouth, but I thought I would spare y'all. And oh, that's so funny I know exactly what you mean, when I make Collin sweets I usually end up snacking on them longer than he does which means what I end up eating more of them... just over a longer period of time. lol.... and oh god now you have my craving brownies!

And awwww you are too sweet, I bet it would! I usually stick to fit + flare as well, but it's definitely nice to have something like this in your closet.

  36. I'm the opposite, I need to invest in more wiggle dresses, they're great for work with a cardigan or blazer!

And lucky you! The item(s) Amelia is giving away tomorrow is fit + flare ; )

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well thank you! I tend to gravitate towards fit and flare sheerly based on comfort, so I can't blame you!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well thank you, and so do I! The best part being if you throw a circle skirt over one, you can make two outfits out of it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm 4'11" so trust me, when I tried it on I was SO RELIEVED it was of a length that could work for ladies of all heights and good luck!

Thank you so much x 2, he's definitely something else haha and we're going to keep trying to keep y'all amused as best as we can ; )

  40. This dress looks great on you!! If i win, I hope it looks just as nice. I think I'll need more than a corset... maybe a girdle to go along with it lol keep those outfits coming. Inspiration 😸

    ReplyDelete
  41. ooo-la-la! you look sizzling hot and he looks to kick back at the hoe-down with the others! great outfits!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am definitely a wiggle dress type of girl on a special occasion like my hens night I wore a sailor wiggle dress =]
Always bribing my husband with baked goods to get him to finish the dishes =p

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well thank you so much! A corset is what has actual metal boning in it, so if you're looking for extreme, that's what I recommend haha. But I've decided to invest in a few more wiggles after this one ; )

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thank you so much, we had a ton of fun with these outfits. <3

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh! I bet that was absolutely adorable! I'm not usually a wiggle kind of girl, but after this dress, I think I'll definitely invest in a few more.

And I bribe my fiancee with chore exchanges so that he'll cook dinner (he's a professional chef haha) it's more than a worthwhile trade. lol
