Spotlight Saturday: A Buyer's Guide + Review of Voodoo Vixen

Saturday, May 17, 2014

Hello, Vixens!

This week for Spotlight Saturday, we worked with the amazing people over at Voodoo Vixen.  We showcased several of this brand's adorable cardigans in our Dita Cardigan Alternatives post a couple weeks ago and since we got rave reviews over a couple of their pieces, we decided to introduce a few more!  Voodoo Vixen is a UK-based, vintage inspired label, which infuses retro, pin-up and rockabilly styles with classic silhouettes to flatter the modern woman.  All of their adorable novelty prints are made in-house.

June is wearing the Martina Dress in a size medium.  I was immediately drawn to these piece because of the print!  I can spot a good novelty print from a mile away (I feel like I conjure them Beetlejuice style or something, novelty print, Novelty Print, NOVELTY PRINT!!!!) so when I saw this martini print dress, I was sold.  The dress has a gorgeous full circle skirt and black detailing.  There's a bit of stretch to it and the dress comes with a little black belt.  It is not lined and there are no pockets, but the fabric is lovely and the dress is a versatile style + color combo, so it can be worn on warmer days or layered under a cardigan on cooler ones.

Amelia is wearing Lauren Top and the Kendall Skirt, both in a size small.  Spring has sprung and this dress screams that!  The top and skirt both creature the same print, but they have different buttons!  The tops buttons are the floral print, and the skirt button highlights the pink in the pattern.  The fabric is super stretchy, which is awesome for Spring and Summer activities.  The quality of the material is also great--I don't feel like I may accidentally rip it which is a huge plus for my clumsy self.  The top features a wide collar, which makes it a perfect work top for me.  One of my favorite things about this combination is the amazing pockets on the skirt!  I love when bottoms have hidden pockets, but I love it even more when the pockets are worked into the design!  These pockets are a good size for carrying lipstick and an iPhone-amazing!!

Cardigans are a staple in our wardrobe for many reasons but mostly because they are so versatile!  The amazing thing about these cardigans is that their beautiful designs make them the perfect cardigans to wear as a top, but they're also not so busy that they cannot be worn with a blouse.

June is wearing the Mila Cardigan in a size small.  I purchased a medium in my last Voodoo Vixen cardigan (the Martini Cadigan which can be seen here) and I loved the fit, but thought I'd try a size down so it was a bit more snug when tightly tucked in.  As you guys know, I'm rather busty but I still found a small to fit quite well.  If you're going for snug, I advise sizing down.

Amelia is wearing the Fannie Cardigan in a size small.  I instantly fell in love with this cardigan, because of it's quality construction and low price! One would definitely call me a fan of this cardigan, and puns..I really like puns.  The fan design definitely allows for the cardigan to be the center of attention!  No boring grandma cardigans here!  Thanks to Voodoo Vixen you can buy amazing pieces, like this cardigan, for only about £27 or $37.

Of important mention, we've had questions about whether we will be partnering with any of our sponsors + partners to offer special discounts and Voodoo Vixen already offers one!  If you register for their newsletter, you will receive a 10% off promo code. And actually, for this weekend, you can get 20% off your total order with the promo code "blufri".  Here are a few more examples of Voodoo Vixen's incredibly cute offerings.

  1. Great post. They're actually offering a big discount this weekend, too -- and I reallllly wanted the dress version of the skirt & top set that Katie is wearing, but it's sold out in my size! I have the Tilly dress from them and love it (though sizing was a little wonky for me)... and I'm excited for the martini dress ;) <3

Great clothes! It kinda feels like a lot of places that sell this style are made in the US or UK, which is pretty cool because I am trying to pay more attention to where my clothing comes from.
How to do you find the shipping from the UK? Is it really expensive?

  5. I love everything you're both wearing in this post, but that Martina dress is particularly beautiful! I have a serious novelty print addiction, too, and the print is just amazing! :)

  7. That Susie Meow dress is so lovely! I suspect that a woolen dress wouldn't get worn much here in Australia though ~___^

  8. I love them too! I have a feeling I'll be stocking up on these before next fall + winter! You can sometimes find them super cheap on Amazon from wholesalers! And Voodoo Vixen's website has really good sales too!

  9. That is EXACTLY what we're looking to hear! haha. Sometimes we wonder if people are bored by them but I think they become really useful when you finally go a to buy a piece from one of these brands and you're unsure about something and you're like OH! This blog wrote this post about this! haha

  10. I agree! I find that a lot of the companies that makes these sorts of pieces are very anti-labor/sweat shop etc. which is really awesome,I think it kinda reiterates the Americana feel of that era.

I found that it was really reasonable if I was able to get items on sale, and sometimes even if I wasn't able to. There are also some wholesalers on Amazon and eBay that sell voodoo vixen and you can find pretty good deals and still represent the brand that was if you really want to order from somewhere in the US because a lot of those are US-based. : )

  11. I went back and amended the post after you said that because I totally forgot to include it! haha. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted because my initial choice wasn't in stock in my size. But now I realize I wear a small in Voodoo Vixen so... that changes everything. lol. I can't wait to ship it to you! With a few other things ; ) <333

Looking sensational (as always!), lovely ladies! I will forever hear the words "novelty print", when I read them, in that same Beetlejuice chant now, too. :)

  13. Thank you Miss Jessica! I'm glad I could provide everyone with a novelty print chant and now I'm not the only one that will be weirdly saying it all the time. haha

  16. Is the martini dress very fitting? I'm not sure what size to order. I thought about a medium because that's the normal size i would get but I read that this dress has a little stretch to it and I want my boobs to look big in it (not that they need any help) so I thought about getting a small. Could you let me know how true to size this dress is, thank you dolls!

  17. Hi Miss Karen! DEFINITELY size down, I find that most of my Voodoo Vixen items tend to run a bit on the larger side in addition to being stretchy. Between those two things, I bet a small will fit you perfectly. <3
