June's March Outfit Round-Up: Excessive Amounts of Pinup Girl Clothing,Trashy Diva + More!

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Because my February Outfit Round-Up was met with sweet words and positivity, I' bringing it back as a permanent blog feature, or at least until people get sick of it. ; ) As per usual, the weather in Nashville was completely INSANE with 70 degree weather one day and 10 degree weather the next. I get several questions about how I handle the cold and where my layered outfit photos were.  To touch on that, my cold weather attire consists of two components: 1) I dress seasonally inappropriately all the time 2) I don't take outfit photos with my coat on because I rotate between 3 peacoats and I'd rather my outfits show.

This is me, once again, apologizing for the mirror selfies and questionable photo quality, I promise I'm working on it. haha.  Also, during my last outfit round-up I had some requests that I should link  back to the original posts featuring the outfit, funny thing about that being, they don't exist.  I know this is sort of a tease, but I use my Instagram as sort of my "fashion forum" and use the blog to tell a little more about myself and share tips + tricks + advice, etc.  If you want to know where anything is from, PLEASE let me know, I'm happy to share, or check my Instagram.

Ok, so obviously, I discovered bumper bangs this month (haha).  I am trying REALLY HARD to grow my Bettie bangs out and it's proving to be a really trying experience.  My work is really conservative, so I usually pin them up with a bobby pin there (I think bumper bangs would horrify some of the partners at our firm) But, I'm trying to decide "how much is too much" with this style.  Are bumper bangs "too much" for every day casual wear (as in, when I'm not at work)?  What do y'all think?

This month, I did a really good job keeping two promises I made to myself 1) to wear my corset basically every day, even days when I'm being lazy at home or on days when I wake up late for work (tightlacing posts can be found here) and 2) wearing a piece of jewelry, even if it's a brooch and I'm convinced my hair is going to cover it up.  You can call me bubble girl because the second something touches my skin, I'm going to swell, break out or get a migraine, so wearing jewelry or even remembering to put it can slip my mind.

It's very outside my norm, but I think my favorite outfit this month was this wiggle dress I picked up while shopping at the Nashville Bettie Page Store (a post about that here).  Sometimes it's nice to dip my toe into the Bettie Page side of things, instead of my typical Betty Draper persona!

What does your favorite outfit this month look like?
You can attach photos below so I can envy it!

  1. LOVE the the wiggle dress!!! bumper bangs are def too much for everyday wear (in a corporate office that's conservative) in my opinion only though!! haha i LOVE the look, but it's definitely more dressy.

  2. I love these posts, June! You have such a great sense of style! I think bumper bangs would be fine for your firm - they're neat and tidy - and sometimes it's good to shake up the conservatives a bit :)

My favourite outfit of this month is my newly sewn fox dress: http://rhinestonesandtelephones.blogspot.ca/2014/03/fantastic-mr-fox.html

  3. I love the goal of forcing yourself to wear jewelry everyday. I think it's a good one. I have A LOT of jewelry that is cute and I feel I never wear it. I get lazy sometimes when getting dressed and leave out little details. I've been forcing myself to dress up more...which is getting easier now that it is warming up outside. I feel like in the winter, it is so easy to get completely lazy. I wore slipper boots in public...a lot.

  4. Its too hard to pick a favorite of these, they are just all too darling. I love the idea of trying to always wear jewelry or an accessory. I myself don't have much in the way of jewelry, but I definitely want to start incorporating them, esp when I see your adorable brooches and pins <3

  5. Oh my goodness, it is impossible to pick a favorite. You are so cute!! I love every one of these ensembles, and I really love your bumper bangs. Also, I'm so happy you've been trying to wear more jewelry because you have some really lovely pieces!

    Cheers,
    Jenny

  6. Oooh, I'm with you so very much!!! Though I do dearly lovely my vintage winter coats, more often than not, I'll suffer the wrath of the Canadian winter to continue to show off my outfits instead. Only just this winter actually did I, on different occasions (with two different vintage coats), don a topper to showcase on camera on purpose.

  10. Thank you! I'm so glad my friend talked me into buying it! And I didn't mean the bumper bangs for work, I don't think I'd even try that haha, I mean for every day wear once I'm OFF work. I'm going to try to get creative in the future once they're a bit longer! : )

  11. I actually enjoy looking at them myself! haha. And thank you! I'm really starting to enjoy them! And sadly the whole reason I'm attempting to grow them out is to do the big front, side curl, but they're definitely not long enough for that. I hope they grow faster!

  13. And thank you so much! I actually enjoy looking back on them myself! I might attempt to wear them to work one day, but I'll admit, I'm also a bit self conscious about the women at my work making snide comments.

And OHMY!!!! That little fox dress with those black Ione's is ADORABLE!!! I remember seeing that post and LOVING it!

  16. I loved that dress, it's a vintage prom dress from the 50s and I've never had a chance to wear it! And you're right, it's nice to feel like I look a bit different every once and a while!

  17. I gave up trying to wear all the jewelry I own, but the least I could do is stick a brooch on my sweater! haha. And I agreed with it being easier to dress up a bit more with the warmer weather, this winter was BRUTAL and I found myself getting lazy because I knew I'd throw a peacoat over whatever I had one. Slipper boots in public sounds OK by me! lol : )

  18. Aww thank you so much! And I actually don't have a WHOLE lot of jewelry, excluding my brooch collection, and I just so happen to completely forget to put them on half the time haha. But I totally recommend purchasing a couple, they're great to throw on any cardigan. <3

  19. Thank you so much! I was SO happy to find something to do with my growing bettie bangs! And thank you, I tend to find some really talented vintage pickers and jewelry designers and I can't help but buy something from them! :)

  20. I have yet to find an lovely vintage winter coat! I'm so sad! I can't figure out where my search is going wrong! I was really hoping for a lovely blue or emerald green or even caramel color but I've never found any that even sort of fit or were within my price range! I would definitely showcase them if I found one though!

  21. Am so happy to hear that when you say us on the page, you actually ended up on our blog! I've lived in Nashville/Franklin for about half my life and Augusta, Georgia for the other. I've been back and forth a bit between the two.

I actually tend to push the envelope in the conservative environment all the time, I'm not going to let people dictate what I, or other professional women, wear as long as it is appropriate and business casual. People can put things like this down, but then again, they could find it reminiscent of Joan from Mad Men haha

And oh, how cute, I remember that piece! I could never even dream to pick a favorite, but I do find the Jenny Skirts I own appearing in my daily wear an awful lot! : )

  22. Aw, June! You liking my fox dress just made my day! Thank you!
Women like that only make snide comments due to jealousy! You are gorgeous just as you are. Don't forget Elle Woods in Legally Blonde II and her pink suit in the courtroom :)

  24. Southern SyracuseApril 18, 2014 at 5:05 AM

Sorry I am so late at replying, I went out of town and my computer promptly crashed as soon as I came back. Good thing my last job was tech support, huh?

I was north of Nashville from about seven to 20, then moved just south of Franklin where I am now. I sometimes wonder why I am still here, especially summer and allergy seasons, but it all works so its okay.

Good for you! I love hearing that. My father, despite not being southern himself, has the southern conservative dress code obsession. I constantly get told to tone down my hair, that tattoos and piercings mean I'll never get a job, and that I always need to be more professional. I can't help it dress pants and button up shirts don't work, big bust and really long torso for being 5'3". I'll wear something that covers everything that needs to be covered and looks nice and we'll be good. Lauren tops with a tanktop under and a high waisted pencil skirt work for interview purposes and odds are I'll have some sort of required uniform at my next place.

I also love my Heidis. I have mint green and the limited edition they made for Blame Betty(black with white polka dots) and I literally wear the latter for pretty much anything that I can. I just found out about a white with black polka dots they made as limited edition for another company and that are still in stock a size down from what I normally wear. Contemplating picking that up, as its on clearance, as well as the bright blue when it comes back in stock on their website. I've been lurking, unsure if I would like a Jenny skirt. I keep leaning more and more towards it the more I look, especially the Orange or Castle prints for something fun this summer.
