June's Little Home: Meet Lady Thackery Binx

Thursday, March 13, 2014

I'll be the first to admit that I  put excessive amounts of thought into choosing a topic to blog about and usually steer away from anything I feel readers might find is "filler" or might think is a little "boring."  I've talked a little but about my home, but  I've been thinking about blogging about my cat, Lady Thackery Binx for a while now and decided to go for it.  This is for all the fellow crazy cat ladies out there! (Also, the people that keep continuously googling "Modern June Cleaver before" will be happy to see some of the embarrassing old photos included below.)

Me + My New, Beautiful Pink Kitten, Lady Thackery Binx, circa 2008
Excuse the incredibly embarrassing photos of myself circa 2008.... I H-A-T-E-D cats, I don't really know why, I just did. So, when my ex came across Binx while delivering furniture to a customer and said they were taking TERRIBLE care of her, I was wary about taking her in. But, how could I refuse?!

Left: Lady Thackery Binx + I circa 2008, Right: Lady Thackery Binx + I circa 2014

Binx was starving, covered in fleas, disgusting and too small to have been taken away from her momma cat... so logically, he cat-napped her (No regrets disclosing this info, people should take care of their animals, she was basically near death)!  After  about 8 million baths in Dawn soap (with pink food coloring mixed into the soap for my own amusement, don't worry, it was veterinarian approved), some food and many vet visits, she was healthy again and I've had her ever since.  I didn't care WHAT I got in that break-up as long as it included Lady Binx.  Sometimes I still forget she isn't a "kitten" anymore.  But she's totally still MY kitten.  People say she's huge, but she's clearly a tiny baby kitten still ; )

Lady Thackery Binx as basically the grumpiest, angriest shark that ever existed.
I actually have another cat, but last week she went missing so I've been loving on Binx extra amounts lately.  It's insane to think I've had her for so long now!  She's moved with me 4 times and has seen roommates and boyfriends come and go.  This little lady has been one of my constants for a long time now (her and Collin have a hilarious love-hate relationship but they're stuck with each other).  I might not be able to leave the house without a little bit of her fur on me, and I might loathe having a long-haired cat occasionally, but cat hair is crazy people glitter.... right!?

Fellow crazy cat lady? Do you have any pets?

  2. I love this post! Pets are totally not filler content, they're awesome! I completely, totally, batshit crazy amounts love cats. I seriously do. When my ex and I broke up I was kind of in limbo with no permanent home, so he kept the kitty because he could at least provide her somewhere stable. I was pretty devastated, losing not only the person I loved but also my kitty cat >.>

Its now 2 years later and I've just recently acquired another kitten (I named her Ava). She came to me through a rescue group as a foster, but I just couldn't let her go, she's too special. I still miss my old kitty, but I'm much happier with Ava around.

  3. I am always covered in "glitter", most of the time it is from the cats but quite often it is from my rabbits. My friends call me the crazy bunny lady. Pets are such an important part of our lives, some days I wouldn't make it if it wasn't for them.

  4. I had four lovely cats but two died last year.
I love cats more than most people so I am right there with you on the crazy cat lady situation!

  5. Her Ladyship is a beautiful kitty! We have two cats both tabbies. The oldest is five and is a lovely dark brown tabby called Fuzz (or Fuzz-o, Fudge, and the like). The youngest cat is coming up on 3 years old and is a lovely grey tabby with random ginger splotches. My daughter named her Duchess after the Duchess of Cambridge. We call her DeeDee for short :)

  6. What a cute furball!! I have never been a cat person. My boyfriend has one and so do lots of my friends, but I have never really connected to one enough to want one of my own. I do have two dogs...one of whom has the disposition of a cat, kinda skittish and picky about who he warms up to and always on his own terms. I guess he is my baby step towards getting into cats. Seeing yours all pink and in a shark suit definitely makes them a little more endearing to me.

  7. I love the pink!!! And I love cats! I had one named Memphis and he passed away last year. He was only 4, so I got another and her name is Starla! Why would you think your photos are embarrassing ? You look good! Also, how do you know what people google? Just curious! :)

  10. What is wrong with her eye? It bothers me soooo much :/

  11. haha, I can't believe you turned the kitten pink! Genius!

Sadly no pets in my life, too many rules in my rental contract and we're not really settled somewhere and don't know where we are heading in life, it's a little unfair to bring an animal into that.

We're cat people though, so maybe one day :)

  13. Love this blog post! Lady Thackery is gorgeous.

I am a crazy cat lady aswell, we have a longhaired tortoiseshell Lottie, Leo and Leela are both short haired. We rescued all three of them. We did rescue Tabby our fourth cat, but he was only with us a short time before he sadly passed away.

Your explanation for cat hair being crazy people glitter, made me smile I think that's a fabulous way of putting it!

So pleased to have found your blog and instagram :)

Look forward to more adventures with Lady Thackery, and hope your other kitty arrived home safe?

  15. Aww well thank you so much, we have no plans on doing so!

  16. Hahaha yes ma'am she is! But now that she's older, I don't color her pink anymore. I miss it sometimes though!

And thank you, I hope she does too, I like to refer to her as being "on an adventure" trying to keep positive!

  17. Aww, crazy bunny lady sounds adorable though, just as good as a crazy cat lady! My fiancee's ex had a bunny named Chewbacca that ate everything so I don't know if I'd be brave enough to every try one of my own. haha

  18. Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that! I was just thinking on my drive home the day I wrote this post that I should've added that haha

  19. Hahaha oh, Amelia and I are definitely on the crazy level about how much we love our cats! I'm so sorry about your kitty! I hope your ex takes wonderful care of him/her.

And I'm so glad you got another kitty to keep you company! I don't know now that I have a kitten/cat that I'll even go without one! Such good mood-boosters!

  20. Aww well thank you! And I love tabbies! What wonderful names! I hardly ever call "Binx" just by her actual name and a string of ridiculous comes out every time I'm trying to find her in the house, am greeting her, etc. haha, I love that I'm not the only one who nicknames her cats!

  21. I love them too! I'm sorry to hear your cat passed but happy to hear you got another to keep you company! Also, I have no idea why your photos didn't work we've had really good luck with them so far, WEIRD!

And I look a little ridiculous, but that's ok, it was a stepping stone to how I look now! haha. But we use a program called Google Analytics that tells us the keywords people search that causes them to land on our blog ; )

  22. I wasn't a cat person either until Binx was basically forced on me! haha. I think a dog with the disposition of a cat is just as good, agreed, baby steps! Maybe we just need to buy you lots of costumes and I'll come hang out with you and we can dress up your future cat and your blog can have a feature on the weird things we dress you cat up in haha you know, just an idea! lol.

  23. She really is cute, but my opinion is totally jaded haha. I miss her being a baby allll the time, I get kitten fever! 5 pets! That's a houseful, I bet you have so many amazing photos on your phone of them doing hilarious things! haha. And I'm glad you had someone to introduce you to the wonderful world of cats too!

  24. I don't do it to her anymore, but I sure do miss her baby pink days!

I always snuck my cats into apartments before I bought my house but when you're not really sure what you want to do, that's a little different. The day you get a cat will probably be totally amazing! : )

  25. I remember seeing her the day we met at your house, such a cute little lady! Cats are amazing like that, Binx was one of the first "things" I moved into our new house! She had to approve!

  26. Well thank you!

I love rescue kitties! I also love torties, my friend Candace has one and LOVES HER TO DEATH, she even has a tortie Christmas ornament haha. Most rescues them have such a sweet temperament! I'm sorry to hear about your fourth.

And it is totally a nice way to explain that "I can't find a lint roller and yes, I have cats" haha

I'm excited you found me/us as well! Always like meeting new people!

Thank you, I like to think she's on an adventure and she'll be returning when she's ready. Maybe I'm delusional but I'm trying to be positive. : )

  27. It's my favorite too, when I got her I didn't even care that she wasn't black, I just knew that needed to be her name! haha

I completely lost my mind the first day, but my fiancee keeps saying she's on an adventure and will come back when she's ready and we looked for days, so I'm doing the same thing, crossing fingers and toes! Thanks so much for the well wishes for her safe return!

  28. We all have a ridiculous amount of nicknames in my house. My husband only calls me Sarah if I'm in trouble! LOL!

  29. I'm getting caught up on my blog reading today and this is one of my favorite posts! My cat is plump and white as well (and was also pink at one point!) and she's definitely been my best friend since the day I got her. Their personalities sound very much the same! She's pretty feisty with everyone but me. Haha thank you for sharing!

  32. I adore this post!! I hadn't seen it before. I love: "cat hair is crazy people glitter!" I had and have coordinated cats: Ramses, who was as big as beautiful Lady Binx. I got him when I was 18 and he spent half my life with me before he died and Luna AKA Psychocat (now 3), in turn sweet as honey or crazy as her nickname, but never boring! ;-)
Love and light fellow crazy cat lady!
