In the south (and maybe everywhere else too, y'all will have to let us know)  August and September really kick off "wedding season".  We love weddings because a) free food and b) weddings are the absolute perfect reason to stock-up on pretty, whimsical floral dresses.  Since Tennessee gets a little chillier than Georgia, the longer sleeves on the Hepburn Dress are perfect for outdoor events especially so you don't have to worry about carrying around a cardigan or jacket... and then taking it off to dance, and forgetting it. Whomp.  The swing style of the Gina Dress is great for dancing, and I both opted to wear the canvas underskirt from Pinup Girl Clothing for a little more volume without having to wear a petticoat. Amanda opted not to wear one with the Hepburn dress because the shape was amazing without one but, there was definitely room for one.

Also, I was really excited to finally try out some pieces from Brighter Bakelite recently and picked up these two pink bracelets to add to my growing collection (mixed with some Bakelite yellow spacers here).  I've never owned properly polished Bakelite before but it's putting the rest of my collection to shame and I couldn't recommend the pieces from Brighter Bakelite and Jesse's polishing skills more. He also makes some pretty amazing originals!

First of Fall

Friday, September 23, 2016

Happy second day of fall, y'all!  We are so ready for pumpkin spice everything (shameless love), coffee dates and strolls in our favorite places watching the leaves change.  Not to mention all of the layers -- bring on the cardigans + tights + booties.  We've been loving all of Modcloth's fall offerings (lots of mustard yellow which is good, because we're addicted). We both chose pieces that we knew would have a permanent home in this season's wardrobe and that could be mix and matched with other outfits.

With each season change we jokingly (and not so jokingly) try and visualize what direction our style will go in.  I found that the Mod Squad Goals Dress fit absolutely perfect and was extremely comfortable.  The color palette of the dress lends itself to so many different accessories so it'll be a great staple piece for Fall to style in different ways. Mustard is my go-to color so I've actually already re-imagined this outfit with mustard tights and burgundy flats. So many options! Also, sometimes a Georgia gal just has to put on a beret and pretend to be French.  Amanda was channeling Peggy Olson and went with the accordion pleat Scene of Your Studies Skirt.

We both agreed that one of the best things about Modcloth is that they carry sizes XXS to 4X.  If you're unsure about what size you need, just like we were, we cannot recommend chatting in or emailing the Modstylists more!  The size charts with full measurements for things might not be posted but the stylists can get them for you and if they're not already taken, will have them taken for you and emailed to you later in the day.  The stylists were absolutely so helpful in ensuring that we picked the right sizes.  Shout out to Molly who helped us not once, not twice, but three times!

//  Also, how cute is our local Augusta bookstore?  Does anyone else want to try running full speed and going through the platform? It was tough to resist.

Amanda:  Fatale Tartan Dress c/o The Pretty Dress Company  |  Persia Heels c/o Miss L Fire
Black Feather Fascinator - vitnage (similar)  |  Gold Poodle Brooch - vintage (similar)

KatieGigi Tartan Swing Dress c/o The Pretty Dress Company | Black Nana Heels - BAIT Footwear
1940s Style Heart Pin - MerriWeather | Sun Hat - Thrifted (Similar)

Most of the pieces we've featured from The Pretty Dress Company in the past, regardless of season, have been bright, vibrant pieces (past posts here) but, we're loving the more subtle Fall/Winter '16 pieces rolling out right now.  One of our favorite things about autumn (besides Halloween and the decrease in humidity) is the the resurgence of plaid and tartan prints so, these particular pieces were calling our names and we knew we had to try them.  The dresses are made of a heavy cotton twill fabric that has a bit of stretch, which we loved, it was really comfy.  Both dresses ran a bit on the long side so, even though the Fatale Tartan Dress has some built-in petticoat, I wore an underskirt to puff it out a bit more and take up some length until I can get some alternations done.  While we would still LOVE for a UK6 to appear on their size chart one day, the UK8's we chose fit great.

I walk past The Hermitage Hotel almost every day during my lunch break since it's only a couple of blocks from my office in Downtown Nashville.  I was excited to visit on a non-work day so I had a little more time to explore (and the perfect piece to wear while doing it).  The history of the building is really interesting and even the men's bathroom has a weird cult following.

Pinup House

Katie:  Flamingo & Pineapple Love Skirt c/o Pinup House |  Pretty Little Thing Bow c/o Erstwilder
Dolce By Mojo Moxy Heartbreak Flat - Amazon (Similar) | Green Hair Scarf - Vintage

AmandaCircus Fun Skirt c/o Pinup House  |  The Lola Top c/o Violets in May 1945
Pink Lollipop Mickey - Femme De Bloom  |  Red Ida Heels - BAIT Footwear

We always love finding/learning about new brands so we were really stoked to find an email from Pinup House in our inbox.  Originally, we really wanted to photograph these skirts together, because they're just so bright and cheery and we thought we'd make an adventure out of it; but, with our busy day job schedules, that didn't work out.  We had lots of fun anyways finding the perfect places to wear them.  It's definitely been a summer of epic novelty prints -- both reproduction and vintage.

Since this is a newer company, we definitely want to give y'all the details about fit.  We provided both our waist measurements and ideal lengths before production since Amanda is petite and things tend to touch her ankles otherwise.  We did find them to be a bit snug in the waist regardless so, if you're in-between sizes we suggest sizing up.  Because there is a 2 inch waistband,  the thicker waistband can roll or scrunch up if it's too tight -- especially if you have a short torso.  There wasn't a lot of "give" to the fabric so we recommend erring on the side of caution.  Also, you want to make sure you always have room to eat pizza and tacos ; ) Overall the skirts are adorable and we love the light cotton fabric.
